Update

The doctors have found that the exit wound is the source of the bleeding. They have been applying pressure and were able to stop the bleeding at bedside. The plan is to continue to give him blood and other medications and take him to surgery later today when Dr. Duke is available.

Urgent Prayers Needed

Uncle Louie is having trouble this morning. His blood pressure has dropped dramatically and he is in need of blood. They suspect that he may have some internal bleeding and are taking him back to surgery as soon as they can locate Dr. Duke. Please Please Pray.

Please storm heaven with prayers

Please pray for dad this morning. We've had a setback and dad should soon be taken back into surgery. His blood pressure dropped dangerously low, and they believe he may be bleeding internally. We've had many good days lately, so this regression did take us by complete surprise. (even though we knew this was a roller coaster) Right now the ICU doctors are working feverishly to reinsert lines and give dad more blood. Dr. Duke had a medical procedure done on himself yesterday, so we pray that he is up for this and will be able to find and fix the problem. Thanks to all of you and I'll update again when more information is available.

Update from Rounds

Rounds this morning went well. Dad is still on dialysis but he is starting to make more urine. He is also on trach collar today, which is a step down from the ventilator. We talked to Dr. Duke yesterday after surgery. He said the bowel looks good, but he's not ready to start tube feeds at this point. Overall, it was a great review and we are continuing to move in the right direction.

Out of Surgery

Dad got out of surgery earlier this evening and all went well. I will update more when I get details.

Surgery #35 and A Report From Rounds

Dad's in surgery now.

Rounds

Dr. Kozar was one of the Dr.'s who made rounds this morning.

A little background on Dr. Kozar: She is very blunt(at times bleak) and in the beginning we weren't even sure we liked her. Not knowing who she was, I was shocked to learn that she's referred to as "The Next Red Duke". and is the Chief of Trauma. It was then that I realized that we needed to toughen up a bit. Some doctors are gentler than others, but really what's most important is that dad's in the absolute best place and has the most skilled providers.

Dr. Kozar had not seen dad in quite some time and she was absolutely amazed by this progress. Dad is on C-PAP, his blood pressure is still good, he's making lot more urine - good news for his kidneys, and his liver function is better as well. Neither his kidneys nor liver are working well enough - YET, but it is still overall improvement. Today's consensus is "EVERYTHING is moving in the right direction".

Please continue to pray, and I'll see you guys at then benefit on Saturday!

Surgery Report

Surgery went well. A new set of microsurgeons were let loose, and the old (very fat) micros were retired. Dr. Duke was able to repair a couple of very small tears to the bowel, and hopefully dad will get a feeding tube in the near future.

This morning's rounds were encouraging. Dad's kidney function continues to pick up, and one of the doctors actually said that dad is no longer the "sickest person" in the STICU. He said this is a "title" dad's held for a long time, but he's recovered enough to be dethroned.

We continue to thank God for all of dad's progress, and pray for many many more recovery-filled days.

Update

Dad is continuing to do well. He is scheduled to have dialysis today and surgery tomorrow. The maggots must be getting full because they have started to escape the dressing! Say a prayer for his nurses, they have a long day/night ahead of them :)

#33

Sat 3/21
Surgery went well and Dr. Duke put in new maggots. These maggots have a lot to live up to, because he said the last set did a great job! They were real eaters!

Dr. Duke made his visit with mom very short, because he had to get off to the rodeo. Today was the day to meet one of the children he'd sponsored in the calf scramble. What a busy man!
